During SMTP time, when the sending server is trying to transmit the
message to the destination server, the destination server
(surgemail) responds with a bounce message, as you see below.

In additional to that, surgemail can email the sender a more
friendly email, as you specify in the friends message below, or
perhaps not. Depends on some other settings.

If you have this g_friends_silent on, it won't send the "friend -
Message" email. Or if g_friends_check_spf is on and applicable. I
think there are some other settings to check, like g_friends_safer,
    etc.

Surgemail might have sent the "friends - message" ... check your
logs. Also check the spam folder of the sender. When I was
testing this same feature from a hotmail account, the friends email
landed in my junk folder. (and hotmail -completely- hides any 5.x.x
responses, *grumble, grumble* , but that's another story.)

      Hello,

we use the Friends System with individual messages per domain
(defind in the Friends Message Box). We send a Spam message to a
testaccount and get back the following message:

But this is definitly not the text we set in "Friends -
        Message"
